Active vacation in South Tyrol and Villnöss Valley

South Tyrol has it all! Hearty indulgence, alpine adventures, serene relaxation, and rich traditional culture. Whether you are an active traveler, a culture enthusiast, a food connoisseur, a nature lover, or a good mix of everything, the autonomous province in the northern part of Italy always offers excellence regardless of the time of day or season. The trilingual region of South Tyrol is renowned for its breathtaking mountain landscape, with majestic peaks, picturesque villages, crystal-clear lakes, and deep valleys. Among these treasures lies our charming Villnöss Valley. As far as the eye can see, well-maintained hiking trails lead through the valley and into the surrounding mountain world, such as the famous Adolf Munkel Trail, offering breathtaking views of the Odle Peaks. Which again form the setting for another highlight in Villnöss: our idyllic St. Magdalena Church. A beloved photo motif, characteristic of many postcards and advertisements representing South Tyrol.
As temperatures rise, so does the spirit of exploration in the active holiday paradise of Villnöss. Spring leads you through endless, flower-covered hiking trails. You have the choice of easy and family-friendly paths, as well as more challenging and steeper nature trails. In summer, the fresh mountain air entices you to cozy alpine huts or adventurous mountain bike trails. On guided mountain and climbing tours of various degrees of difficulty, you literally follow in the footsteps of South Tyrolean extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner, who spent his childhood and youth in Villnöss and knows each of our peaks by name. In autumn you will experience a special splendor of colors and utter silence among the jagged Dolomite peaks of the Puez- Odle Nature Park. Nature enthusiasts eager to learn more about our nature park and explore its wonders can get an insight into exciting exhibitions and breathtaking pictures and films in the Puez-Odle Nature Park House, in the center of St. Magdalena.
And what about winter? It naturally showcases its best side with ski tours, family-friendly sledging excursions, and dreamy snowshoe hikes. The small ski area "Filler" in St. Magdalena is conveniently located right on the doorstep of our apartments and offers both an easy and a slightly more challenging slope. For those who prefer larger ski resorts, long downhill runs, and après-ski emotions, the nearby ski areas of Plose, Val Gardena, Seiser Alm, or Gitschberg-Jochtal can be reached in approximately 25-45 minutes by car. For sledging and cross-country enthusiasts, Villnöss opens up and prepares safe sledging runs (over 20 km) and cross-country ski trails through magnificent natural landscapes during the winter. The appropriate equipment can be rented directly in the valley.
From our delicious bacon dumplings to magnificent chapels. From our traditional sheep breed "Villnösser Brillenschaf" to characteristic alpine huts. We passionately experience, appreciate and celebrate our culture and traditions. We are a very hospitable holiday destination, eager to share our joy for life with our visitors. As the first Slow Food Travel Destination, the Villnöss Valley serves its guests the traditional South Tyrolean cuisine in a truly special way – with thoughtfulness and conscious sustainability. For cultural inspiration, nearby historic towns offer intriguing museums, such as the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano (home to Ötzi), regional shops and typical farmer's markets.
